Burkburnett Historical Society
Representatives of the Burkburnett Historical Society hosted the Wichita County Historical Commission on June 1, 2023, at the Burkburnett Historical Museum.
Russell Miller and Carol Rudd brought out several tables and chairs, served a tasty bean soup, and introduced the visitors to the exhibits at the Society’s Museum.
Robert Palmer, chair of the Wichita County Historical Commission, led the group in prayer and then asked each member to introduce themselves.
Ms Rudd explained the ABC’s historical display about Burkburnett’s rich history. The display introduces the viewer to stories about the flora and the people of the city.
Among the several guests enjoying the visit were Delores Culley, director of the Kell House Historical Society; Judy Holmes Gilmore, Mabel Clapp Conner, and Jack Gilmore, the three of whom represented the Iowa Park History Museum, and new members to the WCHC Diane and Phyllis Hargis, introduced by long-time member, Joreen Ludeke.

Eastside Community Quilt
In late 2014, Brenda Jarrett and Arthur Bea Williams, organizers of the Eastside Community Quilt, invited the community to join in the creation of a quilt that would reflect the history of Eastside. Organizations, families, and individuals -- from all around Wichita Falls -- contributed 12 x 12-inch squares to add to the quilt. The Wichita County Historical Commission contributed a square, represented in the image above. Photo by Torin Halsey published by the Times Record News, December 1, 2015.
